Cast Iron Chimeneas
Cast Iron Chimenea : Top Tips & Warnings
The traditional clay
Chimenea originated in Mexico but when they started becoming
popular, cast iron chimeneas were made and became
a more practical model from the range, especially for those
that live in a cold climate.
If you have a cast iron chimenea, carry
out the following steps to care for it and protect yourself
from any accidents:
- Protect your hands and arms with long-sleeved
gloves and prevent yourself from getting burnt.
- Use a shovel to remove ashes.
- Choose a safe place to locate your cast
iron chimenea - ensure that it is on a fireproof surface too.
- Look out for rust spots. Deal with these
immediately by sanding down the spot, cleaning it, and applying
a layer of paint.
- Protect your cast iron chimenea from
the varying weather conditions by using a chiminea
cover. This will help to prevent rusting from the rain
and staining on the ground beneath it.
- Shovel the cool ashes out, take out the
grill, clean and replace.
- For chimineas that were not supplied
with a grill, use sand or pea gravel to cover the about an
inch of the bottom.
- Keep your fires small and don't make
them big.
